“As Chief of the Spring Branch ISD Police Department, I strongly support the efforts to keep the Memorial City Ice Rink open. I spent many years playing hockey there, and it would be a sad day for Houston to lose such an important community institution. We already have very few sheets of ice available in our region, and this rink has provided generations of families, athletes, and young people with opportunities for recreation, teamwork, and healthy activity. Facilities like this are rare and valuable, and I believe every effort should be made to preserve it for the future.”
HTX Storm is the premier all-girls hockey organization in Houston, providing developmental and competitive programs for players ranging from ages 4 to 18. Established in 2021 by the Houston Girls Hockey Association, the club offers everything from “Learn to Play” sessions to high-level Tier II travel teams. They focus on building a supportive culture and clear pathways for female athletes to excel in a sport typically dominated by co-ed formats.
Houston Theatre on Ice (TOI) is a competitive figure skating program that blends the technical skills of skating with the creative elements of theater and dance. Often called “Ballet on Ice,” the teams consist of groups that tell a cohesive story through music and choreography.
The Houston Junior Aeros is the premier elite travel youth hockey organization in the Houston area, serving players from the 10U through 18U age divisions. Focused on competitive excellence and player development, they represent the city in various regional and national tournaments.
WHOAH (Women’s Hockey Outreach Association of Houston) is a dedicated non-profit organization with a “By Women, For Women” mission to grow the sport of hockey in Space City. They focus on community outreach, organizing local events like “Girls & Women’s Hockey Day” and providing a supportive network for female fans and players.
The Houston Harpies are a developmental women’s ice hockey team that prioritizes fun and accessibility for players of all skill levels, including those who have never skated before. They hold regular practices at the Memorial City Ice Arena and provide a low-pressure environment for women to learn the game at their own pace.
The University of Houston (UH) Ice Hockey Club is a competitive student-run organization that began play in September 2023. Competing as an ACHA Division II team, the club plays in the American Collegiate Hockey Association, representing UH and bringing collegiate ice hockey back to the city for the first time since the 1940s.
The Rice University Ice Hockey Club is a newly re-established student-led club sport program (as of 2025) designed to bring competitive ice hockey back to Rice University after a 70+ year hiatus. It competes in the American Athletic Conference, with a focus on skill development and rivalry matchups, such as against the University of Houston.
The Rice University Figure Skating Club (RUFSC) is a university-sponsored sports club in Houston, Texas, that participates in the United States Figure Skating (USFS) Intercollegiate Program. Founded by students, it offers a space for competitive and recreational skaters of all levels to train, compete, and build community.
The Texas Outlaws Hockey Club is a competitive youth hockey organization based at Spirit Ice Arena in College Station, TX. The club focuses on player development for ages 8U-18U through tournament-style play, high-intensity training, and a family-oriented environment.
The Houston Hockey Community (HHC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to growing,, and making the sport of hockey affordable and accessible to all ages and skill levels in the Greater Houston area. Founded in 2023, the organization focuses on diverse programs, including youth/adult roller hockey, street hockey, learn-to-skate, and sled hockey for veterans.

Emily Chan
American pair skater from Pasadena, Texas, who secured a spot on the U.S. Olympic team for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina after a notable career in both singles and pairs. Competing alongside her partner, Spencer Howe, at the Skating Club of Boston, she has achieved significant success, including two Four Continents silver medals (2022, 2023), multiple Grand Prix silver medals, and a top-10 finish in their Olympic debut in 2026. A former junior national champion (2016), Chan is known for her resilience, often returning to podium finishes after injuries, and she is recognized as a standout Texan figure skater who trained in both Chinese modern dance and ballet before specializing in pairs.

American figure skater who is the 2018 CS Tallinn Trophy silver medalist, 2019 World Junior bronze medalist and the 2018 U.S. junior national bronze medalist.

Esteban Catano
John Esteban Catano Molina, 17, dreamt of figure skating but there were no ice rinks in his hometown in Colombia. He moved to the U.S. with his parents and learned to ice skate by watching YouTube videos and then practicing with inline skates.
